Pregame

Allow players fifteen to eighteen to fine tune their skills and continue to enjoy the game of baseball regardless if they are currently playing High School baseball or not. It allows for these older players to practice their skills on regulation diamonds against players from other areas. Whether they want to improve their skills or just enjoy playing the game, this gives them the opportunity to do just that.

Final Score

Our Palomino League is for 15 through 18 year olds. At this level, players are introduced to the regulation diamond with 90 foot base paths and 60.6 foot pitching distance. Players of league age 15 and 16 are subject to pitching limitations designed to protect their arms.

Games are played under the official rules of Major League Baseball. The Palomino League enables high school players to fine tune their skills before advancing into open competition. It is designed for allowing players to hone and display their skills. The Palomino League enables these young adults to continue to enjoy the game of baseball in conjunction with or outside of organized high school programs, to pit their skills against players from other areas and to display their talents for review by collegiate recruiters and professional scouts.

Dubuque Palomino League teams are allowed to schedule games with other area teams (even in other leagues) that are interested. Schedules will be coordinated when possible with local high school baseball coaches and programs to minimize conflicts. Games played against fellow Palomino associated Moline, Davenport, Bettendorf, IOWA PONY and Dubuque PONY league teams count as qualifiers for the Palomino League World Series held in Washington, PA.

After attending the spring player evaluation session, players are placed on teams via a draft system. Once drafted, the player stays on that team until they age out. For example, a 15 year old drafted onto the Palomino Bandits will remain on the Bandits until they effectively age out of the league. Specialized player placement by coaches may occur at this level, subject to board approval.
